About Volkswagen Jetta
The Volkswagen Jetta was first introduced at The Frankfurt Auto Show in 1979, and has been in steady production ever since, making it one of VW's most successful automobile lines. Eighty-six analysts ranked the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta as 9 out of 30 in the affordable small car niche, based on their own test drives and published reviews. Since its 1979 debut, many advanced features have been added to the Jetta product line, including the fuel-efficient TDI diesel trim. Advances in engine technology to boost torque, reduce fuel consumption and enhance road performance make the Jetta worth its slightly premium price. The Jetta uses ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel, and delivers real-world highway mileage of 42 mpg, and 20 mpg in the city for normal driving.
The name "Jetta" is derived from the German language word for "jet stream," and is one is of several models in the VW product line named for well-known winds. The Jetta received five out of five stars in National Highway Traffic Safety Tests, and includes front and rear disc brakes, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, emergency braking assistance, electronic stability and traction control and side and head air bags.
Over 6.6 million Jettas have been sold since 1979, and this popular model has become more powerful over successive generations, delivering a maximum of 140 horsepower and 236 foot-pounds of torque. The Jetta has seats for five people, and its six-speed transmission can be operated either automatically or manually.
Jetta is one of Volkswagen's "greenest" and most technically advanced models. Volkswagen began producing a MultiFuel Jetta since 1991, making it an early E85 biofuel adopter. The current Jetta diesel engines accept the almost carbon neutral B5 biodiesel, and the clean diesel Jetta TDI won the 2009 Green Car of the Year Award from Green Car Journal. A Jetta extended warranty covers all Jetta engines, including the clean diesel, as well as gasoline and rotary engines.
