About Volkswagen GTI
The Volkswagen GTI, the Golf's more compact, sportier sister, is now in its 6th generation. The GTI was the original hot-hatch, first introduced to the US in 1983. The GTI has been released under various names over the past 30 years, including Golf GTI and Rabbit GTI in the US. It is considered one of the top entry level performance cars in its class - very highly regarded by consumers and auto reviewers for its price, power and real-world performance.
GTI is an aggressively sporty version of the Golf, available as a two- or four-door hatchback. The turbocharged 2.0 four cylinder engine can provide 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. A six speed manual transmission is standard; a dual-clutch automated manual transmission, called a DSG, is optional. The GTI is capable of reaching 200 mph in 6.7 seconds.
Despite its small size, the GTI has a roomy cabin with interior features so refined it makes the GTI feel almost like a luxury car. The cabin is almost identical to Volkswagen's true luxury model the CC, sans the leather seats (tartan cloth is standard). Interior equipment includes heated front seats, Bluetooth and an eight-speaker audio system with touch screen controls and an iPod interface. It's sister vehicle, the Volkswagen Golf, is one of the most popular cars ever sold in Great Britain, where 1,500,000 Golfs have been sold. The Golf GTI distinguishes itself with its good looks, comfortable interior and high performance.
As hot-hatches go, the Golf GTI is ranks among the top five vehicles in its class for its quality, performance and price. Automobile Magazine's reviewer said "Volkswagen's GTI is magic. What else can you call a diminutive hatchback that can shame supercars." Consumer Guide's car reviewer called the Golf GTI "…a practical hatchback with near premium-compact build quality and serious driving-enthusiast appeal." A reviewer from Edmunds online said, "This German hot rod might cost more than its Japanese rivals, but inside it's easy to see why."
"The two chrome exhaust pipes make the GTI look more menacing than the civilized VW Golf" says Car and Driver magazine. APR Motorsport was victorious driving the Golf GTI in the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge Street Tuner (ST) Class.
Is your GTI's luxury trim covered under the factory GTI warranty in case parts break? Volkswagen covers some parts, but not necessarily all. A Volkswagen GTI extended warranty can protect you in case of warranty gaps.
