About Volkswagen Eos
Volkswagen named their convertible coupe after Eos, the Greek goddess of sunrise, and it's the first coupe rolling off of VW's production line since 1995. This four-door upscale midsize car was made to be a sporty sedan that's fun to drive. The convertible hardtop, panoramic tinted-glass sunroof, pop-up mesh-fence wind blocker and heated front seats offer freedom and maximum comfort during long car trips.
Volkswagen calls its retractable hardtop "CSC" for coupe-sunroof-convertible. This unique roofing system converts the car from a two-door four-seater with open sunroof to an open air two-by-two. Pull the shade overhead, and the Eos becomes a traditional coupe four-seater.
This unique five-piece roof that folds into the trunk is limited to the Eos, the only car that has a hardtop of this kind. The system opens the retractable hardtop in just 25 seconds, and it's interesting to watch the choreography of roof panels, sunroof and windows disappearing by sliding themselves into the trunk. All-up or all-down isn't necessary: Automatic pinch protection allows you to let in as much sunlight and air as you want.
The Eos was also made to be a very safe car to drive. The vehicle must be traveling below .06 mph during roof opening or closure, and there is a status indicator that warns if the roof is not secure in either direction. Other safety features include six airbags, Automatic Rollover Protection System, Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) that comes standard with all Volkswagens and a tire pressure monitor. The Eos was named a "top pick" among convertibles in 2009 crash tests by the federal government's Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. According to federal highway safety reporting, ESP/ESC-equipped cars result in 35% fewer crashes and 30% fewer highway fatalities.
The Eos comes in four trims: Komfort, Komfort SULEV, Lux and Lux SULEV. The 2010 Eos has a four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. The six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions have separate settings for normal or sport driving. There is a transmission settings control to shift to clutchless driving if desired.
Whichever Eos trim you drive, make sure your car's luxury features and unique hardtop roof are in good operating condition. A basic factory Eos warranty may not cover all the parts and features. A custom Eos extended warranty plan may. Learn more about extended warranty for Eos and get a free quote.
