Volkswagen has done it again!

The most recent well-planned, well-organized and well-orchestrated PR blitz by Volkswagen was around its new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. This comes on the heels of a recent sponsorship of Worldwide Fashion Night Out, which promoted 2011 Volkswagen Jettas as VIP vehicles.

So what happened on Oprah?

Oprah Winfrey, media billionaire, during her last “Oprah’s Favorite Things” show, gave away keys to brand new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. In total, Oprah gave away 275 Beetles. Associated Content reports that excitement got so intense that paramedics were on stand-by in case someone fainted or became too ecstatic. The interesting thing is that Oprah did not actually show the car beyond the iconic silhouette.

So what do we know about 2012 Volkswagen Beetle?

• Images have not been publicly released yet; a few artists provide rendering based on what they think the car will look like (samples below)
• 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will have a more modernized futuristic look; less rounded roof, more defined front/read features
• 4 types of engines: 1.2, 1.4, 2.0 and 2.5 liters
• Diesel version will have 1.6 and 2.0 liter engines
